The tough world of pan-car racing takes another step forward with a good turn out of Formula One cars here at North Harbour Radio Control Car Club. It's Round 6 of the 12 race Championship season. The track changes each week, so drivers need to adapt to the new layout. These cars can be a handful if they're a little out side of the setup window, and spin easily. There is heaps of torque going through the rear axle only. No independent rear suspension so throttle control is the key to winning, and if looks could win, the McLaren on the grid would have a lap head start... and then having the energy recovery lights on when off throttle is sensational - WELL DONE!

Most drivers are running the Tamiya F103 chassis (F104 doesn't fit into the rules, since it is 4wd).
Here is a link to the pdf manual of the F103, and you can see the car is very basic.

No front dampers, it runs the traditional t-bar chassis - with x2 side springs, and a single spring-damper for longitudinal suspension travel. Effectively it has no damper(s) for lateral weight changes, and it uses a friction plate just in front of the motor - which is adjustable, not by fluid - but with grease. Very clever - it's been the same in r/c racing for many years, as the 1/12th pan cars were some of the very first racing classes.
