Rolls-Royce have begun testing their new all-electric plane for what it hopes will be a world air speed record.

The aircraft has been named 'Spirit of Innovation' and aims to reach breach the 300mph airspeed milestone, almost 100mph faster than the current top speed held by a German manufacturer.

Recently, the project hit a key milestone as the plane taxied out on to the runway for the first time, beginning essential tests ahead of its first planned flight in a few weeks.
