Once in awhile an airplane comes along that just fits that dreamy image many sport flying RC modelers have when thinking about the next airplane they want to fly on a lazy Sunday afternoon. The new Hangar 9® Saratoga is definitely that airplane. It has absolutely classical sport plane looks; youll know it the minute you see it. The model is an ARF, built from balsa and plywood in the traditional manner, even including a built-up wing. However, new methods of construction provide some new features. Atwo-piece wing makes transportation, storage and assembly very easy. The wing is held on by two nylon bolts, but it is all covered by the easily removed canopy hatch that gives a very nice overall appearance. The tail assembly is a simple bolt-on, making sure there are no alignment issues to be concerned about. When it comes to flying, this one gives the pilot exactly the characteristics hoped for. It is surprisingly aerobatic but very gentle on the controls. An attractive trim scheme is set off by a totally different underside color scheme, making orientation in the air exceptionally easy. And as if all of these features werent enough to send you off to the local hobby shop, the Saratoga is also set up to accept the easily attached Hangar 9 floats for the trip out to the lake with the rest of the club on the next float fun fly.
