The Dictator gets Big, Bad and Bloated? -

Marking the end of the reign of the Dictator line for Nikko, was the Super Dictator (1990). A monstrously-large 1/8 scale 4WD buggy, the Super Dictator was built upon the original 1/10 scale Dictator chassis...somewhat. Although the motors became larger than the original, the gargantuan size of the tires and heavier body meant a higher tax on the battery and hence, worse performance. Well, this is performance in the traditional sense, such as top speed, acceleration, and handling; however, if you were a kid, this bombastic buggy could take a wall crash like a champ. This is something that the original was famous (or infamous) for not being able to do. This growth was partially functional (the giant rear wing could help with rear collisions and the tires could help the chassis survive a crash), but the growth of the body was grotesque. This ballooning could explain why collectors shy away from this Dictator, yet gravitate towards the original versions. When one looks back on the "evolution" of the Dictator, we see a once near hobby-grade masterpiece morph into what appears to be a legitimate kids toy. While this is what the aesthetics of the car appear to be, the underpinnings are still solid. This conundrum makes for a somewhat disappointing end to the most sought after of Nikko products. However, the build quality (made in Japan or Singapore) meant that the Super Dictator was still a machine that could last...and not just a heavy drop!
