Time to test the ground station and this afternoon I climbed a hill near Worlow Quarry, Huddersfield avoiding the sheep poo for a test flight.
The plane behaved itself impecably. This test was a baby step and like most babies I fell a bit. The Eagle Eyes switcher I had locked onto just the directional arial meaning whenever I strayed off the the track instead of switching to the omni-arial the picture started to break up.
The directional has a 68 degree effective angle and I needed to fly behind myself in order to land.
The landing was hard, hitting a small rock embedded in the ground - damage was a broken front bumper/skid and the camera swivel/tilt snapped. Both now fixed.
Lessons learned - create a checklist before flight and add checking that diversity setting to it.
Longer term, add a antenna tracker.
Flight stats

Max distance was 1.63km - perfect picture, Max height above take-off point 113m, Distance traveled 13.66km, Used 1710mA from a 6600 4s lipo, Max speed 94kph and a flight efficency of 125mAh per Km
