Well Folks, Here is the description on Lou Cetrangelo's
Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star. What a Beauty !!!

Great Job Lou !!!

This is a 1/5 scale Lockheed TV-2 Sea Star which was a 1950’s era Navy Trainer (The Airforce version is designated as a T-33 Shooting Star). The wing span with the Fletcher tanks is 105.5” and the length is 93.5”

I started with a fiberglass Skymaster T-33 in white gelcoat and painted it in the Navy TV2 color scheme closely following the image on a 1958 Hawk 1/48 scale plastic model box cover and George Pugliese beautiful plastic model from the same kit.

I used custom mixed KlassKote epoxy primer and paints. All the large graphics are done using paint masks. The small nomenclature and images are with dry transfer graphics from Tailor Made Decals in Germany.

I am using a Spektrum DX-18 transmitter with 13 Hitec servos. The flight control surfaces have high voltage servos operating at 7.4 volts. I am using the Powerbox Royal SRS to provide power distribution to each of the servos.

It has dual voltage regulators, landing gear sequencer and a built in iGyro SRS for stability. This is all programmed from digital display and control located behind the removable nose cover. The canopy is designed to open while on the ground.

I am using the sequencer in the transmitter to automatically operate latches after the canopy closes. There are pneumatically controlled speed brakes just in front of the main landing gear.

The navigation, beacon, strobe and landing lights are controlled by a Unilight 4 channel controller. I am using a Spektrum TM1000 telemetry module to monitor the health of the turbine, Powerbox and receiver reception while flying.

The turbine is a KingTech K210G that has been de-tuned to about 35 lbs. of thrust. Fuel is Diesel with 3% Kingtech turbine oil mix. The total fuel capacity is 174 oz. or just over 5 quarts. The estimated maximum flight time is 13 min. Total weight at takeoff is 52.5 lbs.

I am still tweaking the iGyro but it flies wonderful. It’s easy to see in the sky and stress-free to land with just a bit of power. The video was taken on my 4th flight.
