Pigeon-guided missiles? It might sound like a wild idea, but it's a fascinating piece of history. In the 1940s, the renowned American psychologist B.F. Skinner received $25,000 in funding, which is equivalent to about $400,000 today, to explore the concept of using trained pigeons to guide missiles. These pigeons would peck at screens to aim the missile. While the project showed promise, it was ultimately abandoned due to concerns about pigeons going off-course.

Pigeons have had diverse roles in history. During the 1950s, the United Kingdom utilized them as messengers for communication. Fast forward to the late '70s and early '80s, the US Coast Guard embarked on an experiment involving pigeons in Search & Rescue missions. Astonishingly, pigeons outperformed humans in spotting targets, with a success rate of 90% compared to humans' 38%. However, this innovative project was regrettably discontinued.

These stories offer a unique glimpse into the interactions between pigeons and humans throughout history, from peculiar experiments to their potential as lifesavers. If you found these tales intriguing, don't forget to like and subscribe for more captivating stories!
