Die Bristol 171 Sycamore ist ein britischer 5-sitziger Hubschrauber. Die Maschine ist komplett aus Metall gefertigt, besitzt ein nicht einziehbares 3-Bein-Fahrwerk und verfügt über einen konventionellen Hauptrotor und Heckrotor. Beide Rotoren besitzen je 3 Blatt. Der erste Prototyp der Sycamore startete schon am 27. Juni 1947, jedoch noch einem anderen Antrieb. Die Bristol 171 war der erste Hubschrauber, der komplett in Großbritannien entwickelt und gefertigt wurde. Im Februar 1952 wurde die Sycamore von der Royal Air Force eingeführt. Die Bundeswehr erhielt später 50 Maschinen des Typs Sycamore Mk. 52.

The Bristol 171 Sycamore is a British 5-seat helicopter. The machine is made entirely of metal, has non-retractable 3-leg landing gear and has a conventional main rotor and tail rotor. Both rotors have 3 blades each. The first prototype of the Sycamore started on June 27, 1947, but with a different drive. The Bristol 171 was the first helicopter to be designed and manufactured entirely in Britain. In February 1952 the Sycamore was adopted by the Royal Air Force. The Bundeswehr later received 50 Sycamore Mk. 52 machines.
