Russian peacekeepers landed at Erebuni air base, a military airport serving Yerevan, following a Kremlin-brokered truce between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region.

Twelve planes delivered 200 military men from Central Military District to Armenia's Erebuni air base, Tuesday.

Il-76 planes appeared to be landing at the air base. They are a part of 1,960 Russian personnel that are planned to be deployed to the region to guard a road connecting the rest of Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia. The peacekeepers are to be deployed with 90 armoured personal carriers and 380 other vehicles, according to local reports.

Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a Russian-brokered agreement to cease fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh starting from 01:00 local time (21:00 GMT) on November 9. Under the terms of the peace deal, Azerbaijan obtains control of the territory it has taken in the most recent fighting, with Armenia giving up further areas in the coming month.
