We all want to spend less time traveling and more time living. In 2021 it is highly likely that you will see, or ride in, a flying car. Those who follow Consumer Electronics Show know very well that the flying car phenomenon is soon taking to the skies. Maybe you are ready to get behind a flying wheel. If you have a Tesla or Cadillac ATS, it’s time to upgrade into a flying car. Let’s hop right onto the top 20 flying cars in the world.
1. AEROMOBIL 3.0
As if making a flying car is not feat enough, they made this one collapsible. The Aeromobil 3.0 is not only fit for airstrips, grassy or paved, short or long, but also perfectly fit for the road. So you can drive it on regular gasoline and fit it into any standard parking space. Its sleek design and its easy operability have made it one of the eagerly watched flying cars. This model boasts a cruising air speed of 260km/h over a maximum distance of 750 kilometers. Its price varies from $1.2 million to $1.6 million, depending on specifications
2. TERRAFUGIA TRANSITION
With the help of a button, you can convert a car into a flying plane with the blessing of science. Yes, that’s the Terrafugia Transition for you. While on the ground, it is a futuristic car. It then spreads out and takes off like a helicopter. When in the sky, it behaves like a plane. One science news fact about this car is, it doesn’t come with the problem of hangar storage, ground transportation or aviation fuel for that matter. The Terrafugia conducted the first flight test recorded for cars that fly in 2006. It is planned to have a flight range of 787 km using either automotive premium grade unleaded gasoline or 100LL avgas, and a cruising flight speed of 172km/h.
3. AEROMOBIL-4.0
With this flying car, you can experience the sky up close and personal, thanks to its excellent durability and stability. Special attention has been paid to keeping this lightweight, but not at the expense of style and comfort. Inspired by the mythical winged horse Pegasus, the Aeromobil 4.0 comes with an advanced automotive crash structure design and occupant restraint systems for the 2 passengers. The vehicle can fly at a top speed of 360km/h, while the top speed on the road is 160km/h. The maximum take-off weight of the vehicle is 960kg, while the useable load and the fuel capacity are 240kg and 90l respectively. Users can travel distances of up to 1,000km on this flying outomobile.
4. Joby Aviation's Air Taxi
Joby Aviation had been working on a personal aerial craft for several years before receiving an enormous cash injection from Toyota and Intel. The conditions of the investment were to provide a practical all-electric air taxi. This air taxi is interesting, compared to others on the list, as it is being designed with a seating capacity of up to 5. It will be, by virtue, a lot bigger and heavier than its rivals. The flying car has a 150-plus mile range, and flies at 200 miles per hour.
5. DeLorean DR-7
The company behind one of the most famous cars in the film industry, is developing a flying car. DeLorean Aerospace is headed by Paul DeLorean who is a nephew to John DeLorean. John was the man principally responsible for the iconic DeLorean gull-wing car that became famous in the film Back to the Future as Dr. Brown's time travel device. The DR-7 will have a cruising speed of 241 km/h with a top speed of 389 km/h. At full speed the range will be 193 km. The DR-7 will carry two passengers in a tandem configuration. It will be 6 m long with a wingspan of 5.6 m.
6. Kitty Hawk Cora
The Cora flying car project from Kitty Hawk Corporation recently got a huge boost. Google co-founder Larry Page threw in his financial muscle. The Cora flying car targets to directly provide easier transport while offering competition to its potential rivals like Airbus and Uber. The craft features no less than 12 lift fans to provide the flying car with vertical take-off and landing capabilities. Cruising speed: 110 mph (180 kp/h). Its flight range is 62 miles (100 km), flight time: 19 minutes with a 10 minute reserve. The payload is 400 lb (181 kg) on 100% electric power.
7. Astro Passenger Drone
Astro Aerospace's Passenger Drone is yet another flying car currently in development. Its working prototype features a carbon fiber shell, 16 independent rotor blades, and a touch control system in the cockpit. Its empty weight (including batteries) is 240 kg, maximum speed of 70 km/h, and a flight time of 20 to25 minutes.
