Here is an Electric RC 1/8 Scale Buggy Qualifier at Thornhill RC Racing in Hutto, Texas on October 4th, 2020.

First, each racer "checks in", by driving their RC Buggy across the MyLaps Transponder Lap Counter. Then racers proceed to "race against the clock", by starting sequentially, spaced out.
Racers are encouraged to let faster drivers by, since this is a qualifier round only.
Once your heat is complete, you will be required to Marshall the next race, so be ready for that.

Tips for RC Car Electric and Nitro Racing:

Personal:
Wear Earplugs for Marshalling Nitro Heats
Wear Gloves to protect your hands and trigger finger while marshaling or pitting
Wear a Respirator for personal nitro fume protection
Stay Hydrated - a water backpack can be nice, especially if you are out in the sun all day, but, luckily, at Thornhill, it's covered!

The Game:
Marshalling - Always be aware of the driver's vantage point, and do not block their view
Be a fast and nimble Marshall. Marshalling is half of the sport of RC racing, so enjoy it, maybe learn something detailed about that corner or jump... but don't get distracted.
Know which part of the course name you are marshalling in case you get a call out over the PA
Parents may be required to Marshall on behalf of their younger children depending on Marshalling ability for fairness to all racers
Those with special needs or injury are permitted to have substitute Marshalls that are capable and motivated.

Strategy:
Qualifier Heats - consider using a lighter battery if electric, since it's not a full race
Ultra soft tires that can last 10 minutes?
Be prepared to wrench on your RC car extensively.
Keep a log of what went wrong, or parts failures, so you can catch trends and make adjustments to overcome those issues.

Wrench:
Consider "Thread locking everything"... Glue those screws in with light threadlocker.
Have a spare box of screws and common parts on hand.
Have a user manual for the chassis so you can look up parts easily.
Hippo Brush - Have a way to clean up your tires; Nitro oil and dirt reduce traction, so a little wash keeps the tires tacky.

Luckily Thornhill RC Racing has on on site RC Parts store, which is amazing! Having and RC store on site makes it possible to pick up replacement parts, fix things up and get back to racing or practicing without shutting down your game!
