Beginning as the Aérospatiale SA 330, the Puma was originally designed for the French gov't/military as a medium lift transport utility helicopter. Impressed by its capabilities, the British RAF adopted it too as the HC Mark 1 Puma in 1967. Additionally, Aérospatiale SA signed an agreement with Westland. Westland would build the HC.1 for the RAF, as well as manufacture some parts and components for France.
The Westland Puma first flew in 1970, with the first ones delivered to the RAF the next year.
In this video, I show two 1/72 scale diecast models from Corgi. One is of an early Puma from 1973, while the other is from the 1991 Gulf War.
