Maiden day highlights for my scratch built F18. This is the Version 5 F18 Hornet I built from plans that I purchased from RC Powers Forums.

I printed the plans at full size (100%) at FED EX and built the plane from scratch using 6mm Depron that I purchased from Tammies Hobbies.

The plane is contructed from 6mm Depron (no paper covering), carbon fiber and hardwood spars added for strength. I am flying the plane using a Spektrum DX8 G2 and Spektrum AR8010T 8-Channel Reciever with Satellite Receiver. For power I am currently running an EMAX RS2205 motor with a 6x4.5 prop, a Hobbyking 40A ESC, and 4S 1300 100C Ovonic Lipo packs. My control setup utilizes 6 servos, 2 for aileron, 2 for rudder and 2 for elevons. I have mixed my elevons and ailerons together via programming in the DX8 G2. I purchased navigation lights from Horizion Hobby's UMX Turbo Timber spare parts list to add a some nice lighting effects to the plane. The lights receive power via an open port on the AR8010T. The plane's surfaces were masked and hand painted with Krylon Shortcuts Flat Gray, Flat Black, and Sun Yellow. I am also using two shades of blue for the canopy, and some bronze on the engine nozzles, all from Krylon Shortcuts. The entire plane also has a final clear coat of Minwax Polycrylic to protect the foam and paint and to further add more strength. Control surfaces are slotted and hinged via cyanoacrylate hinges. Adhesives used are foam friendly thin and medium viscosity CA, and also hot glue. I completed this plane in the Spring of 2020 and I finally decided to give it a go in Spring 2021. It had been hanging on the wall of my shop next to a few other planes and I felt it was time to take it up!

I filmed this with a Runcam2 4K camera mounted to my Spektrum hat.
