Three commercial space giants have proposed precision rocket landings to the Olympic Committee as a potential sport for the 2020 Summer Games to be held in Tokyo, Japan. The idea is being pitched by Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos, SpaceX founder Elon Musk, and Virgin Galactic founder Sir Richard Branson. The three say that the Olympics needs to promote STEM education as well as athletics. The competition would consist of a launch that inserts an object into orbit and then recovers the booster at a precise spot. The closest to the spot would be deemed the winner of the competition. The FAA has issued a plan to register all Canadian geese operating in U.S. airspace in an effort to reduce the number of bird strikes on airplanes. FAA administrator Michael Huerta said, “Those big birds have taken out enough airplanes, and it’s time we established a way to track the birds that cause accidents. “We don’t need another ‘Miracle on the Hudson’ because the next time a Sullenberger might not be at the controls.” An FAA draft document leaked to ANN indicates that all Canadian geese that have achieved the ability to fly must be placed on the registry. Each bird will be leg banded with a miniature solar-powered ADS-B Out transmitter to allow tracking. Have you ever wished you could sound like a seasoned airline captain on the radio? Well now you can. On the heels of “IntelliAudio” comes the PMA 10001 from PS Engineering that will make any pilot sound like he or she is most at home in the front office of a Dreamliner. PS Engineering president and CEO Mark Scheuer says that the new PMA 10001 uses proprietary circuitry to alter the qualities of any voice to give it the quality of an airline captain. EAA Chairman Jack Pelton says that it is time that the organization recognize the growing presence of business jets at the annual AirVenture gathering. To that end, Pelton says that this year, a special area will be set aside for business jet owners to camp beside their airplanes. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
